But what is Tahsin?

Tahsin comes from the Arabic language and means to improve or beautify. In the context of the Qur’an, Tahsin is the effort to improve the recitation of the Qur’an so that it follows the correct articulation points (makhraj) and characteristics of letters, ensuring that each letter is pronounced properly without changing its meaning. Tahsin emphasizes accurate pronunciation, correct length of recitation, and smooth, tartil reading. By learning Tahsin, a person can recite the Qur’an more correctly, beautifully, and in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
